As we have seen from the individual Twitter and Facebook rankings the Marketing job boards really are leading the way in terms of branding and community building through social media.

The style and feel of their profiles was completely different when compared with the ones we have looked at. They were much more attractive, the content was more entertaining and the whole ambiance of the majority was one of conversation and friendliness. Social media really should be about the conversation and the ones that these boards were having are ones that we would certainly want to get involved in.

Particular favourites were Only Marketing Jobs who have expertly identified the fine balance between advertising vacancies, networking and discussing ideas and news. Another great example of this was Brand Republic; although their BRJobs feed could have done with brightening up a bit, their Facebook page was one of the best filled we’ve come across. Likewise; CreativePool’s landing page and additional Facebook apps really made it seem as if they have understood what their audience are after and how best to deliver it without going over the top.

* We are aware that the very popular professional networking platform of LinkedIn is missing, but unfortunately we are not able to measure a company’s performance via that channel in a straight forward and fair way.

R21Media’s Top 18 Marketing Job Boards by Social Media Ranking Part II: Facebook

After the impressive Twitter activity we have seen from the Marketing job boards it will be interesting to see how they fare with Facebook; which has so far shown itself to be the less popular social media channel of choice for recruitment agencies and job boards.

Our results are based on a number of measurements including; the amount of fans; the content of their pages; and an independent Facebook analyser’s findings.

1. Only Marketing Jobs (OMJ) (Score 2170)
Rightly deserved, Only Marketing Jobs take our number one spot. They use their wall to advertise select vacancies, share photos and posts about events they have organised/attended and also share posts on debates they are having, including Monster Munch vs. Space Raiders
2. Creative Pool (Score 2135)
CreativePool are another great example of Facebook done well. Their informative landing page gives a warm welcome and the additional apps they have such as their Newsletter and Top 15 Jobs gives their page a fullness that is not often seen by job boards.
3. Brand Republic (Score 1980)
Brand Republic follow the top 2 in their ability to create a great community on Facebook. Photos of recent advertising campaigns, the latest news and a separate page giving a link to search their jobs makes for great engagement with fans.
4. EConsultancy (Score 1950)
EConsultancy’s landing page is very good, personalising it by adding the individual users name gives a very welcoming feel. The page is then filled with news and tips, reports, membership info and they make good use of the event app.
5. The Drum (Score 1890)
The Drum’s page, although still filled with attractive content, is a little lacking in comparison to the top 4’s. A landing page would certainly have seen this page score higher.
6. Marketing Week (Score 1254)
Updating their page on a daily basis, Marketing Week use their page to share industry news with their fans.
7. Chinwag (Score 440)
Separate to their main page; www.facebook.com/Chinwagjobs use their page to advertise vacancies and give jobseeking tips. A job search app would certainly be advantageous to this page.
8. Panther Marketing Jobs (Score 405)
With all their posts and updates coming straight from their Twitter feed it is unsurprising that this page only has 51 fans.
9. UTalkMarketing (Score 66)
Again, with the majority of updates coming from Twitter and very little page specific content, it is understandable that this page has only managed to attract 5 followers.
10. Direct Marketing Jobs (Score 44)
This page was updated regularly throughout April with tips and news, but has not been used since
11. Simply Marketing (Score 42)
Having only ever updated their page twice, Simple Marketing seem to have taken the same approach they did to their twitter feed; create it and forget about it
12. ClearlyMarketingJobs, 4MarketingJobs, Mad.co.uk, Marketing Job Board, NMA, The Marketer and Totally Marketing

Although the Marketing job boards continue the trend of preferring a Twitter presence over a Facebook one; 61% of the job boards considered have Facebook pages. This again beats the generalist job boards and the finance/accountancy specific ones.

Their pages really go to town in terms of the content displayed and the additional integrated features. They seem to be using their pages more as more interactive websites for their online community, allowing users to participate in a way traditional websites don’t.
